    ABOUT LITTLE HIBISCUS
    Mission Statement

Little Hibiscus Productions purpose is to create a NewYork City based performing arts ensemble dedicated to creating, developing and staging, affordable quality plays and programs and with a commitment to provide opportunities for the collaboration of new and established playwrights, local actors, directors, designers, as well as industry professionals to express themselves artistically, build lasting creative relationships, to be seen and heard and to work together to develop and perform programs that are topical and relevant to the communities they represent with an emphasis on women playwrights.
    Background

I began my performing career as a dancer, and at age ten I was actually one of those cute little children on stage with New York City Ballet, fighting the army of mice in TheNutcracker. Dancing was a wonderful time of my life, but about six years ago, I decided to concentrate on acting, because I found it much more fulfilling. As I began to audition, I realized many of the acting jobs I was getting were not plays or roles that I really believed in. Aside from the scenes I was doing in class, I wasn’t getting the chance to really do what I loved, and I knew that so many talented actors I studied with and worked with, were in the same situation that I was. New York used to be a training ground for young actors, but today new talent is rarely given an opportunity, and it’s much harder to get an audition or even just to be seen. Because of this, I wanted to create a place where actors could work, and do work that they believed in. I am happy to report that in its first season Little Hibiscus gave 2 wonderful actors their first NYC acting jobs. In starting Little Hibiscus, I try to find plays that speak to me and have meaningful roles for the many talented actors I work with. We try to produce valuable and entertaining plays that are off-beat, a little quirky, and that make you think – and all this at an affordable price. The price of admission is usually under twenty dollars. Little Hibiscus is continuing its story with a wonderful group of core actors that have immense talent and have supported the company with their energy and insight from its inception. It has provided us all with new opportunities to do what we love to do. The process is what excites me, and I believe that a truly creative process can only lead to a wonderful result.
